Hon. Paul Taribo, the immediate past majority leader of the Abia State House of Assembly, has announced his decision to join the All Progressives Congress (APC)  to strengthen the party’s standing in the state ahead of the 2027 general election.

Taribo, who represented the Ukwa East state constituency, made this declaration at the APC state headquarters in Umuahia, after parting ways with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He emphasized that his motive for joining the APC was to collaborate with like-minded individuals and contribute his experience as a grassroots politician to the party.

While clarifying that he is not seeking any party position or running for office, Taribo expressed his desire to help position Abia State as a central player in national politics by aligning with the ruling party. He highlighted the significant benefits that would come from such a positioning.

“We have been in the opposition for far too long in Abia, and it is time for a change,” Taribo asserted, emphasizing his familiarity with the local political landscape and his belief that the task ahead would be achievable.

Taribo indicated that his visit to the party secretariat was a precursor to his plans to merge his political structure and thousands of supporters into the APC in his constituency.

Commenting on Taribo’s decision, Dr. Kingsley Ononogbu, the state chairman of the APC, warmly welcomed the former legislator and assured him of his rightful place within the party as an experienced politician.

Ononogbu acknowledged Taribo’s foresight regarding the 2027 general election and commended him for taking the necessary steps at this opportune time.

Reiterating the party’s commitment to accepting individuals who can contribute to the state’s development, Ononogbu praised Taribo for his bold move and encouraged him to actively engage at the grassroots level to gain support.

He emphasized the importance of collective efforts in strengthening the opposition party in Abia State.
