Italian Manager Robert De Zerbi is on the verge of making a comeback to the world of football management following his departure from Brighton at the end of the season.

De Zerbi and Brighton mutually agreed to part ways after two years, citing differences in their long-term vision as the reason for his non-involvement in the upcoming season.

Brighton is now close to finalizing the appointment of 31-year-old Fabian Hurzeler as De Zerbi’s replacement. Negotiations between the club and Hurzeler’s current team, St Pauli, are progressing positively.

De Zerbi’s next move has been a topic of great interest, with many speculating that he would secure a high-profile managerial position.

However, after missing out on the Manchester United job following discussions, he is yet to find a new home. Nevertheless, it appears that he is inching closer to a return to management, with rumors suggesting that his next venture will be in France.

Reports indicate that De Zerbi could be on the verge of taking over at Marseille, as negotiations between the two parties are said to be underway.

This potential appointment comes after Marseille finished eighth in the league last season, under the guidance of Jean-Louis Gasset, who took over from Gennaro Gattuso in February.

The French club had a disappointing season after finishing third the previous year, and they were keen to revive their fortunes.

De Zerbi’s successful tenure at Brighton, where he led the team to their first-ever European qualification, attracted interest from top clubs like Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester United.

However, Chelsea and Liverpool opted for other managers, while Manchester United decided to retain Erik ten Hag instead of seeking a new manager.

Now, it seems that De Zerbi might have the opportunity to replace the retiring 70-year-old Jean-Louis Gasset at Marseille. The club has reportedly sent a proposal to De Zerbi, and negotiations for a potential contract are underway.

While De Zerbi’s future remains uncertain, Manchester United explored the possibility of hiring him along with other candidates, including Kieran McKenna, Thomas Frank, Thomas Tuchel, and Mauricio Pochettino. However, the club ultimately chose to retain Erik ten Hag, who guided them to victory in the FA Cup final despite a disappointing Premier League season.
