In a surprising turn of events, the former Commissioner for Lands and Housing in Ekiti State has decided to vie for the position of deputy chairman in the upcoming Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) congresses.
Akinwumi, who was once a contender for the state chairman position, received the nomination form today at the office of Chief Abeni Olayinka, the organizing secretary.
Olayinka, while presenting the form, expressed confidence in Akinwumi’s capabilities and wished him success in his endeavor.
Addressing his supporters at his residence in Ado Ekiti, Akinwumi expressed gratitude for their unwavering support and promised to represent them faithfully and effectively within the party. He assured them that he would not disappoint and confidently declared that victory would be theirs by the grace of God.
Akinwumi, who believes he possesses the necessary qualifications to be the national chairman of the party, acknowledged that he has served in various ministries as a commissioner in the state and has also been a member of the governing board of the Federal University of Technology, Akure. However, he emphasized his commitment to obeying the party’s decisions and respecting the zoning arrangements.
Having initially aspired for the chairmanship position, Akinwumi revealed that he received a call from respected party leaders who advised him to adhere to the party’s decision to zone the chairman position to the south and the deputy chairman position to the north.
He expressed his loyalty and obedience to the party by accepting the role of deputy chairman, as it aligns with the party’s zoning arrangement and supports their collective goal of winning the next gubernatorial election.
Expressing his gratitude to the party leaders for their intervention, Akinwumi urged them to continue supporting the party and its members.
He also took the opportunity to encourage the state working committee to foster unity and inclusivity within the party, emphasizing the importance of a strong and united front for future success.
With Akinwumi’s decision to abide by the party’s zoning directives, the PDP dynamics in Ekiti State have become even more intriguing, setting the stage for an interesting and competitive congress.
