Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has commended Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for surpassing the expectations of stakeholders regarding his governance in the nation’s economic hub.

Fayose made these remarks on Wednesday during the inauguration of the Ikeja GRA Network of Roads in the state capital.

As a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) residing in Ikeja GRA, Fayose praised the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration for enhancing the area to rival the affluent Ikoyi neighborhood. “This area has now become our own Ikoyi… You and your deputy have transformed GRA into Ikoyi GRA,” Fayose expressed.

Despite his affiliation with the PDP, Fayose also announced his support for the current APC Governor of Ekiti, Biodun Oyebanji, in the upcoming 2026 elections.

“I am someone who speaks my mind, regardless of the consequences. I want to clarify that I am not a member of the APC, nor will I ever be, but I won’t hesitate to acknowledge the good when I see it,” he stated.

Reflecting on Sanwo-Olu’s nomination six years ago, Fayose noted, “There were many doubts about your capabilities, including from me, but you have proven the skeptics wrong. It’s not about the façade but the substance within. You represent a new breed of politician.”

Fayose also highlighted the importance of unity, noting that both he and Governor Oyebanji have been able to bring people together regardless of political affiliations. “I often tell those who will listen that I am a PDP member, yet I will support Oyebanji in the next election. It transcends politics; it’s about who Oyebanji is.”

In response, Sanwo-Olu pledged to ensure that infrastructural development reaches all 20 local government areas in Lagos State, stating, “No part of the state will be overlooked or left behind.”
