In a surprising move, Segun Adewale, previously active in Lagos state politics, has opted to join the All Progressives Congress party. He made the announcement at a press event on June 15th, emphasizing his desire to support President Tinubu’s agenda of progress.
Adewale clarified that his decision was based on ideals rather than future political aspirations. He had most recently been involved with the Peoples Democratic Party but felt it no longer aligned with his vision.
The former leader expressed frustration with lack of cooperation and closed doors within his past affiliation. Adewale contributed greatly from his own funds but saw little return on that investment.
Additionally, Adewale noted the toll politics had taken personally and professionally. He now seeks to protect long-term interests through a change of allies. Many of Adewale’s past supporters have already made the same shift.
In his new party, Adewale appears welcomed with open arms. Several of his backers have risen to positions of influence. And Adewale plans to demonstrate personal loyalty by connecting with President Tinubu directly.
While surprising to some, this political transition was a private choice based on ideals and pragmatism and not motivated by external pressure or conflicts as alleged by others. Adewale’s experience and goals align with his new home.
