Before joining MTN, Dabengwa had a successful career at Eskom, South Africa’s state-owned electricity utility. He served as an Executive Director at Eskom before moving into the telecommunications sector.

After stepping down from his role as CEO of MTN in 2015, Dabengwa continued to contribute to the business world. He was appointed as a director at Eskom in 2018 but resigned in 2020. His influence extended beyond telecommunications as he engaged in various business ventures and advisory roles.
