Former National Publicity Secretary of the now-defunct New People’s Democratic Party (nPDP) and prominent figure within the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has condemned the recent actions taken against Senator Ali Ndume by the Senate, led by Godswill Akpabio, as a blatant act of political vengeance against the former Senate Chief Whip.
Ndume was ousted from his role as Senate Chief Whip following his candid remarks regarding the dire economic conditions plaguing Nigeria. In a recent interview with Arise TV, he expressed his grave concerns over President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s inadequate response to escalating issues such as poverty, insecurity, and hunger—challenges that threaten the very fabric of the nation.
In a rapid response, the APC, through a letter presented by Senate President Akpabio, removed Ndume from his key Senate position and suggested he resign from the party to join either the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or another opposition group.
Chief Eze criticized this decision as unjust and articulated his views in a statement to the press on Wednesday. He remarked, “The removal of Ndume as Senate Chief Whip signifies a pivotal moment in the rising tensions within the country, driven by a series of inconsistent policies and the general turmoil of the Tinubu administration. This situation confirms suspicions that the government is lost and overwhelmed by the crises it has spawned.”
Eze highlighted Ndume’s dedication to the APC’s foundation and his vocal stance on critical national issues, which he argued is central to Ndume’s role as a legislator.
“As a party that positions itself as a beacon of hope for the nation, the APC should have utilized Ndume’s insights to initiate meaningful reforms instead of stripping him of his Senate responsibilities.”
He further criticized Akpabio, labeling him a sycophant who retaliates against those who dare to expose the shortcomings of the Tinubu administration. Eze urged Nigerians to recognize those hindering the nation’s progress.
In closing, Eze praised Ndume for his courage, encouraging him to remain resilient and assured him that “the Nigerian populace acknowledges his genuine intentions and stands firmly with him during this challenging period as the country confronts the harsh realities of poverty, rampant inflation, and hunger—issues that have become synonymous with the Tinubu regime.”
