But Alcaraz stood his ground by coming back to win the next set with just one break, beating Sinner 6-4, and then the deciding set went in the way of the Spaniard as Alcaraz was classic till the very end, winning 6-3 to earn a match point and subsequent victory. In the other Semi-Final, Alexander Zverev was on form when he took on Casper Ruud for a place in the final.
Fourth seed Zverev needed just four sets to dispatch a tremendous display against his opponent, Ruud.
After losing the first set 6-2, Zverev took control of the game winning the last three sets 6-2, 6-4, 6-2 to set up a final match against long-time rival Alcaraz.
Zverev said after the game, “I can’t describe the feelings. I’m extremely happy, I’ve got so much history on this court. I’ve got some of the best and worst memories on this court. I’m in the final after my fourth semi-final and I’m going to give it my all on Sunday.
“If I waited, you saw how quickly the first set went away. Casper is too good a player to wait. I knew I had to be aggressive to take it to him. The balls went in and I’m happy to be in the final.” He added.
Both Alcaraz 3 and Zverev 4, will return to court on Sunday to challenge each other for the championship crown in a rematch of the 2022 final in which Zverev won.
