Italian star Jannik Sinner has advanced to the semi finals of the French Open after a straight set Victory over Grigor Dimitrov.
Sinner defeated Dimitrov 6-2, 6-4, 7-6 to set up a semi final clash with either Carlos Alcaraz or Staphanos Tsitsipas who will be playing later in the evening.
In another semi final that will be played tomorrow, Wednesday, Alexander Zverev will take on De Monaur as Casper Ruud has already qualified to the semis after Novak Djokovic pulled due to injury.
Novak Djokovic was bitter Monday night, after his thrilling comeback win against Francisco Cerundolo. These clay courts he’s played on for more than 20 years were as slick as he had ever felt them, after a week of rain. He had been telling tournament organizers for days they needed to do something about it. They refused.
Not long after supervisors refused his request, he slipped and either tore his meniscus because of the hampered state of his knee or further aggravated an existing tear that might have been causing the previous discomfort.
As of this evening in Paris, there was no decision yet on whether Djokovic would undergo surgery to repair the meniscus.
It undoubtedly jeopardizes his participation at Wimbledon and the Olympic tournament, which was his top priority of the year since he has never won an Olympic medal. The lone hole in his resume.
Djokovic loves few things more than competing for his country.
Sinner was too good for Dimitrov as the Italian was dominant right from the first set, winning 6-2 until the last set that he was dragged to a tie break but still produced a fantastic result by winning the tie break 7-3 to end the game on a high.
