Salisu Yakasai, known as Dawisu and a former spokesperson for Abdullahi Ganduje, has asserted that former governor Rabiu Kwankwaso opposes President Bola Tinubu’s recent tax reform bills due to personal interests rather than broader concerns.
Dawisu shared his views on this matter on Monday via a statement on his X account, following Kwankwaso’s remarks suggesting that Tinubu’s supporters, whom he referred to as the “Lagos Axis,” are attempting to impose their policies on the North.
Kwankwaso has also accused Tinubu of interfering in Kano State’s political landscape. In response, Dawisu contended that Kwankwaso’s objections stem from the fact that Tinubu’s policies do not serve his own interests.
He recalled the events of 2014, when Kwankwaso and the “Lagos Axis” collaborated to install Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi in Kano as a means of undermining former President Goodluck Jonathan.
“It’s amusing how quickly we overlook our history. Back in 2014, when Emir Ado Bayero passed away, this same ‘Lagos Axis’ came to Kano, met with you as the sitting governor, and pushed for SLS to become Emir against the will of many Kanawa. They did this merely to spite Jonathan, despite SLS not being among the three nominees put forth by the Kingmakers at that time. You acquiesced after they promised to back your presidential aspirations in 2019,” Dawisu remarked.
