Former Ogun State governor Gbenga Daniel has urged for a peaceful and diplomatic resolution to the ongoing situation where a Chinese company in Paris seized three presidential jets. Instead of creating public conflict, he believes that finding a calm, diplomatic solution is the most logical step forward.
In a statement released by his media team on Saturday, Daniel emphasized the importance of avoiding political games over such sensitive national matters. He called on fellow leaders to prioritize the country’s assets and integrity, stating, “This is not the time to engage in political battles. Our focus should be on finding a respectful and peaceful resolution.”
Daniel, who now serves as the Senator representing Ogun East, reminded everyone of his long-standing dedication to the progress of Ogun State. He reflected on his time as governor, during which he oversaw significant developments, such as the establishment of the Ogun/Guangdong Free Trade Zone. This initiative, he highlighted, continues to provide opportunities for Nigerians, with multiple companies still operating successfully within the zone.
He further explained that, by the time he left office in 2011, around 56 companies were actively engaged in various stages of operation or development within the Free Trade Zone. The project has contributed to vital changes, like building new roads, opening schools for the local community, offering scholarships, and supporting numerous Nigerians in their education. The previously rural Igbesa area, he noted, has transformed through the life-changing developments brought by the Free Trade Zone initiative.
Hon. Daniel called for unity and maturity in handling the seized jets issue, urging everyone to put Nigeria’s interests above political gain and work towards a diplomatic outcome.
