The Director-General of the World Trade Organization, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has been awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters by the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in Washington, United States.

She took to her X handle to post pictures of the award ceremony on Sunday.

DeGioia, the President of Georgetown University, Joel S. Hellman, the Dean of the School of Foreign Service, Shanta Devarajan, the Professor of the Practice of Development, and Rosemary Kilkenny, the Vice President for Institutional Diversity, Equity all attended the award ceremony.

Iweala expressed her happiness by highlighting the accomplishments of the WTO and boosting the morale of young graduates, who are representing the future of the world, especially in current challenging times.

In her post, she says, “A great honour to be awarded an Honorary Doctorate degree of Doctor of Humane Letters Honoris Causa by the #Georgetown University School of Foreign Service today in Washington DC.

“Also gave the commencement address at both the Undergraduate Degree and Masters Ceremonies! Delighted at the wonderful reception of the speech with a standing ovation.”

Doctor Ngozi Okonjo Iweala is a Nigerian American Economist who has been serving as the Director General of the World Trade Organisation since March 2021.
