Senate President Godswill Akpabio has revealed the reasoning behind his switch from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Akpabio stated that his move to the APC aims to ensure that the ruling party secures control over all states in the South South region ahead of the 2027 elections.

He made these remarks while hosting Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State at his home in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State.

In a statement released by his Special Assistant on Media and Communication, Anietie Ekong, Akpabio emphasized that achieving dominance in these states would significantly improve the developmental prospects of the South South area.

He commented, “With the APC at the helm, many of us felt it was essential to change our political alignment to better represent our constituents at the national level and influence the country’s affairs.”

“Thus, my decisive shift to the APC was driven by the desire to elevate our South South people to a more central role in national discussions.”

“With the current political landscape, and based on various indicators, the ruling APC is on track to incorporate more states into its coalition,” he concluded.
