The family of former Gombe State Governor and current Senator for Gombe Central, Danjuma Goje, has officially refuted a viral video suggesting that money was sprayed at the recent wedding ceremony of Goje’s daughter, Fauziyya Goje, and her husband, Aliyu Abubakar.
The video, which circulated widely on social media, allegedly shows scenes of guests throwing cash, sparking controversy online.
On Sunday, Muhammad Yayari, Goje’s media aide, addressed the rumors, describing the video as a “mischievous and calculated attempt” to tarnish the family’s reputation.
Yayari clarified that the wedding, held at the Central Mosque in Abuja on Friday, was a dignified event attended by high-profile figures, including President Bola Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajuddeen Abbas, and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, among others.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Yayari stated, “On behalf of the respected Goje family, we categorically deny this mischievous allegation and consider it a blatant and calculated attempt to tarnish the image of the revered family and the esteemed guests who attended the ceremony.”
Yayari emphasized that the individuals seen in the video were neither the bride and groom nor any recognized family members, calling the footage “malicious.” He added, “It is unthinkable and mischievous for disgruntled elements to share the viral dollar-spraying video insinuating it as part of Fauziyya’s wedding. Goje’s family is revered and would never engage in or condone an activity contrary to Nigerian laws.”
The Goje family also addressed the values of the event, with Yayari clarifying, “Throughout the line of events to celebrate the wedding, there was no place where men and women were mixed. We urge the public to disregard this baseless claim and appreciate the values of decency and respect that define our family.”
The family concluded by thanking friends, associates, and well-wishers for their support, underscoring their commitment to upholding the family’s honor and integrity amidst any misleading portrayals.
