Former President Goodluck Jonathan has urged Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara to maintain his strength in the face of the political hurdles currently confronting him. He emphasized that the difficulties Fubara is experiencing are essential experiences that will ultimately shape him into a ‘General’ of politics.

This encouragement comes during a period of political tension between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who is now serving as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Speaking at a chieftaincy installation ceremony in the Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State, Jonathan implored Fubara to persevere and remain dedicated to the citizens of Rivers. He acknowledged that greater challenges may still lie ahead, noting that such situations are commonplace in the political arena.

“I understand you (Gov. Fubara) are facing difficulties, and at times like this, I prefer to keep my thoughts to myself. This is your first foray into high political office, and you will encounter numerous trials. However, keep in mind that no one becomes a General without engaging in battles. The obstacles you face now are equipping you for a prominent role in politics. With your dedication and the visible support from the people of Rivers, I believe that God will guide you through,” Jonathan remarked.

Additionally, he called for all stakeholders to foster peace in Rivers State, highlighting its significance to the region and the country at large.

“A harmonious Rivers State is crucial because it serves as the heart of the Niger Delta. Disruptions in Rivers can lead to crises across the Niger Delta, which would be harmful to our economy. We need tranquility in the state, and I encourage the Governor to remain focused and calm,” Jonathan added.

In response, Governor Fubara expressed his gratitude to Jonathan for his presence and pledged to continue striving for the community’s development.

“We will persist on the right path and reach our promised destination. Thank you for your patience and support,” he affirmed.

Governor Fubara also acknowledged Jonathan’s steadfast backing during challenging times, stating, “He has been a pillar of support throughout this difficult phase of my administration.”
