Mountain View, California – Google is launching a new feature that allows users to create their own custom AI chatbots. These chatbots, called Gems, can be tailored to serve various purposes, such as acting as a gym buddy, cooking partner, writing editor, or gardening expert.
To create a Gem, users simply provide a set of instructions that describe the desired personality and expertise. For example, a user could create a “knowledgeable, casual, and friendly” Gem that specializes in planning low-water gardens.
Google is offering a variety of premade Gems for users who don’t want to create their own. These premade Gems include a learning coach, an idea brainstormer, a career guide, a coding partner, and an editor.
Gems are available to Gemini Advanced, Gemini Business, and Gemini Enterprise users on mobile and desktop devices in over 150 countries and most languages.
Google’s introduction of Gems comes in response to OpenAI, which has already allowed users to create their own chatbots for several months. OpenAI also offers a store where users can share their custom chatbots with others.
With Gems, Google aims to provide users with a more personalized and flexible AI experience. By creating their own chatbots, users can tailor them to their specific needs and interests. This could lead to more engaging and helpful interactions with AI.
