On Thursday, Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, inaugurated the completed Okpanam-Ibusa bypass in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State.
Speaking at the Ibusa end of the 5.3 km road, Governor Adeleke expressed his admiration for the performance of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
He commended Governor Oborevwori and the people of Delta State for their warm reception and impressive achievements within the first year of Oborevwori’s administration. Adeleke urged Deltans to support their governor in delivering more projects aligned with his MORE Agenda for the benefit of the people.
“In Osun State, I will be two years in office in November, and if you visit Osun, you will see the state has become a construction site with flyovers being built like never before.
Here in Delta, Governor Oborevwori is doing the same remarkable work for his people who have entrusted him with their mandate. I am here to celebrate with him and inaugurate this road because God has placed him in office for Deltans to enjoy the dividends of democracy,” Adeleke said.
Governor Oborevwori assured that the upcoming Local Government elections on July 13 would be free, fair, and credible. He emphasized his administration’s commitment to democracy and the rule of law, encouraging all candidates to conduct thorough campaigns and demonstrate their capabilities to the people.
“We are committed to ensuring that Deltans continue to enjoy the benefits of democracy. I urge you to uphold democratic principles as we approach the Local Government elections. To all candidates, not only from PDP but other parties as well, the election will be free, fair, and credible. Campaign diligently and show your capacity to serve,” Oborevwori stated.
Addressing requests made during the inauguration, Governor Oborevwori noted that the administration would consider the needs expressed by traditional rulers from the two communities.
He praised the immediate past Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, for initiating the project and highlighted the road’s role in reducing traffic congestion at the Koka interchange, thereby fostering commercial activities in the area.
“Delta is rapidly growing, offering opportunities for people to acquire more land. I commend the contractor for addressing all the observations made during project inspections,” he added.
Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, explained that the road includes a 5.3 km length, 10.6 km of drains, and a 10.3 m pavement with a 7.3 km asphalt overlay.
The construction adhered to the Bill of Quantity and Bill of Engineering Measurement to mitigate perennial flooding and facilitate seamless travel along the corridor.
Obuzor of Ibusa, Obi Professor Louis Nwoboshi, and Ugoani of Okpanam Kingdom, Obi Michael Mbanefo, lauded Governor Oborevwori for fulfilling a long-awaited dream.
They also requested the linkage of Okpanam and Akwukwu-Igbo, as well as Okpanam with Ugbolu, for easier navigation across the council area and the installation of street lighting on the new road.
