Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu has announced a donation of thirty million naira to support the families affected by a recent boat accident in Dundaye community, which tragically resulted in the deaths of five individuals over the weekend.
In his statement, Governor Aliyu revealed that fifteen million naira would be allocated to the families of those who lost their lives, while the remaining fifteen million naira would assist the survivors of the accident.
The Governor also outlined plans to enhance safety measures for riverine communities by providing motorized boats and life jackets.
He urged canoe operators to exercise caution and avoid reckless behavior, stating, “I have received reports that the captain of the ill-fated boat was operating it recklessly. Such dangerous practices must cease.”
Governor Aliyu encouraged residents of riverine areas to utilize the water resources for irrigation, emphasizing that this could significantly contribute to food security for the state and the nation.
He reassured the public of his administration’s commitment to supporting both wet and dry season farming through the provision of fertilizers, insecticides, and other agricultural inputs.
“We are working on measures to promote agricultural mechanization and make farming more attractive for our farmers,” he added.
Special prayers were held for the souls of those who passed away in the tragic accident.
