Moved by the compassionate disposition of Elder and Mrs Sampson Prince Udoh, a couple in Onna Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno has urged Akwa Ibom people to emulate their gesture of living peacefully and loving their neighbour as themselves.

The Governor gave the charge when he stopped over to appreciate the couple who, despite living in a dilapidated structure, gifted a portion of their land for the construction of a compassionate home for their neighbour, whose land was not sufficient enough for the purpose.

Speaking at the brief but emotion – laden event, Gov. Eno said when the story got to him on how the couple had sacrificed a portion of their land for a widowed neighbour despite their condition, he was overjoyed by their demonstration of the true Akwa Ibom spirit and directed that a home, with improved facilities, be built for them.

He emphasized that the visit was not to commission the three bedroom compassionate home, but to appreciate and encourage the couple whom he described as, “champions of compassion.”

“Every good plan for another person will always come back to you. This is a typical example of love, good neighbourliness, and practical Christianity.”

Meanwhile, in furtherance of his commitment to rural development, the Governor has awarded a contract for the construction of access road to the two homes in Ikot Nkan, Onna Local Government Area.

Earlier, the LG Chairman, Hon Kufre Umoren, appreciated the Governor for his compassionate disposition, and for giving succour to the couple, as well as the widow who had earlier benefited from the compassionate homes initiative.

He assured that the people of Onna will continue to support the Governor throughout his tenure in office.

Similarly, the Paramount Ruler of Onna, Edidem Raymond Inyang, described the Governor as a compassionate leader, who has created a township in Onna from Ikot Nkan.

He therefore invoked royal blessings on the Governor with assurance of support from the traditional institution in the area.

In their separate messages of appreciation, the wondrous couple appreciated the Governor for wiping their tears, and giving them a new lease of life.
