Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has vowed to establish a judicial panel of inquiry to scrutinize the conduct of governance in the State prior to his administration. He made this announcement during the inauguration of Mr. Dagogo Israel Iboroma, SAN, as the new Attorney- General and Commissioner for Justice, at Government House, Port Harcourt, on Monday.

The governor emphasized that the appointment of the Attorney- General comes at a pivotal moment when numerous legal challenges need to be addressed with determination and bravery.

He stated, ” My brother, Dagogo Iboroma, you are now the newly appointed Attorney- General of our beloved State. SSG, hand him his appointment letter; he is the Attorney- General.
” Why are we appointing you at this crucial juncture? We are facing many issues. We trust that you will not be the type to file ‘ nolle prosequi’ or any action that could undermine us when service is sent to you.
” Additionally, you have a significant responsibility. We will be establishing a judicial panel of inquiry to examine the affairs of governance. So, prepare yourself, as I am committed to this decision.
” Please defend us. We trust in your ability to protect our interests because your record is impeccable. You are a gentleman and peaceful by nature. You are not a troublemaker. Individuals like you are gifted and possess a fear of God. “
Fubara reiterated that although he had hoped the political crisis, which he saw as a family issue, would have been resolved, he regrets that there has been no progress.
The Governor stressed that despite the unfortunate situation, his administration has moved forward, as there is now a properly constituted State House of Assembly to perform legislative duties and a seasoned lawyer appointed as the Attorney- General.
” I am pleased that this marks the beginning of a new era in our administration today. When I mentioned that I had a reason for being patient, it was because I believe we are all from one family. If we have a disagreement, no matter how severe, it should be resolved amicably.
” However, it has become evident that this disagreement cannot be resolved amicably. There are clear signs of sabotage and deliberate attempts to undermine this administration.
” Therefore, we must move forward. If moving forward requires making decisions that may hurt some individuals, we will not hesitate to protect the interests of the people of Rivers State
Fubara criticized former Attorney- General Prof. Zaccheaus Adangor, accusing him of undermining the very administration he served.
” It’ s noteworthy that you were already a SAN before your appointment, indicating that you are a highly competent lawyer who has earned your position. Unlike our previous Attorney- General, who obtained the SAN title while in office, only to use it to sabotage the government.

” Instead of keeping silent, you publicly boasted about being a learned person and the Chief Law Officer. Yet, you stood before a magistrate court, forgetting your role as Chief Law Officer and disregarding the ethics of your profession. As I said, you will receive your due reward in this world, not in the next. ”
The governor also emphasized that God does not err when elevating individuals to higher positions, dismissing any contrary claims.
