Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, announced on Thursday that his administration has settled a total of N1,688,225,073.72 for cooperative deductions from October 2022, inherited from the previous administration of Gboyega Oyetola, and for half-salary arrears owed to state workers by past administrations over seven months.
According to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, in Osogbo, “Governor Adeleke paid the October 2022 cooperative deductions amounting to N971,823,786.59.””In addition to the cooperative deductions, the state government also paid N716,401,287.13 for the seventh half-salary payment.”
“The total amount paid is N1,688,225,073.72.”
“Governor Adeleke inherited billions of naira in pension, cooperative deductions, and half salaries from the administrations of both Oyetola and Rauf Aregbesola, covering the 12 years of APC government in the state. He cleared these debts on Wednesday.”
Commenting on the payments, Governor Adeleke emphasized his administration’s commitment to systematically clearing all inherited pension, salary, and deduction debts as a core agenda of his tenure.
“I reaffirm my total commitment to easing the hardship of workers and residents of our dear state. We are deploying state resources to address the needs of various sectors of society.”
“We are investing significantly in soft infrastructure, from workers’ welfare to food security and access. We are supporting students through bursary payments, among other measures. We are also implementing daily measures to attend to the health needs of our senior citizens.”
“Our government has successfully combined soft and hard infrastructure. Our infrastructure plan is progressing faster than many expected. Osun is on the fast track to achieving a four-year plan within a midterm,” Governor Adeleke stated.
