Abia State Governor Alex Otti has strongly criticized the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for allegedly creating a shadow government within the state, labeling the action as “treasonous.” He has pledged to pursue serious legal repercussions against the party.

During a recent meeting with leaders of various workers’ unions, Otti expressed his disbelief regarding the PDP’s establishment of a shadow government, which reportedly includes a designated speaker and shadow commissioners.

He characterized this initiative as “baseless” and a reflection of a misunderstanding of Nigeria’s political system. “The idea of a shadow government is foreign to our presidential democracy. There is no such thing as a shadow government in this context. The issue stems from ignorance, and they seem unwilling to learn. Shadow governments only exist in parliamentary systems,” he articulated.

Governor Otti went on to assert that the PDP’s shadow government essentially represents a government in exile, which lacks legal recognition and constitutes a treasonous act.

In response to this situation, he has directed the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ikechukwu Uwanna, to take appropriate legal action to address the matter effectively.
