Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has warmly welcomed 10,000 athletes and officials representing various sports teams from Federal Ministries, Departments, and Agencies across Nigeria.
In a grand ceremony held at the Sharks Stadium, located within the Alfred Diette Spiff Sports Complex on Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, Governor Fubara officially inaugurated the 43rd edition of the Federation of Public Service Games (FEPSGA).
Representing the governor, Deputy Governor Her Excellency, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, presided over the vibrant event, reassuring participants of the state’s commitment to ensuring a safe and supportive environment for the games.
Governor Fubara emphasized that the games present a valuable opportunity for competitors from all over Nigeria to engage in healthy competition, fostering unity and camaraderie. He described Rivers State as a place known for its peace, hospitality, and rich cultural heritage.
“It is with immense pleasure that I welcome you to the 43rd edition of the Public Service Games, also known as the Simplified Rivers Games 2024, here in Port Harcourt,” he stated.
“Sports possess the incredible ability to change the world and unite people in ways that nothing else can. Today, we gather to celebrate the transformative power of sports that can unite, inspire, and elevate us.”
As the athletes engage in their respective events, he urged them to remember that the essence of FEPSGA extends beyond merely winning medals. “It’s about forging friendships, nurturing a sense of community, and embracing our diversity,” he remarked.
“I encourage you all to give your best, support one another, and exemplify the values of fair play, sportsmanship, and excellence.”
