Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has shifted his perspective on the ongoing political issues in the state, viewing it not as a hindrance but as a vital enabler for effective governance.

During a Christmas Ballad event hosted by former Governor Dr. Peter Odili at his residence in Old GRA, Port Harcourt, Fubara shared that the challenges he faced have provided him with a renewed outlook on leadership, largely fueled by the unwavering support from the citizens of Rivers State.

The political landscape in Rivers has been fraught with tension since last year, when Governor Fubara and his former mentor, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, publicly clashed, resulting in a protracted crisis.

At the event, Fubara expressed gratitude for divine intervention, stating that God has proven to be the ultimate liberator for the state and its residents, ensuring a decisive victory over the political adversities he has encountered.

“I no longer view the crisis as merely a problem; I see it as a necessary facilitator for governance,” he stated. “My strength comes from the genuine support of the Rivers people. You inspire me, and together, we can overcome any challenge.”

He emphasized the importance of faith, declaring, “With God Almighty on our side, victory is guaranteed.” Fubara reassured attendees that God is guiding the affairs of Rivers State, promising a prosperous future as they look ahead to 2025, which he believes will surpass past experiences.

The governor expressed his commitment to fostering continuous improvement in the state, highlighting the joy displayed by Rivers citizens during the Christmas festivities as a sign of a promising future.

Fubara vowed to uphold integrity in governance, noting the importance of leaving a positive legacy for future leaders. “We are merely caretakers, and it is crucial that we maintain progress so that our successors can build upon our achievements,” he remarked.

He extended his blessings to Dr. Odili and his family, wishing them love and peace, while reiterating his determination to avoid actions that would bring shame to Rivers State.

In addition, the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo, reflected on the challenges faced during the assembly crisis but credited Fubara’s encouragement for empowering him and others to stand firm for the truth and work towards liberating the state.

Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Simeon Amadi, also spoke at the event, sharing his surprise at still being in office amid the political turmoil. He noted that the crisis has evolved into a fight for liberation and pledged to remain steadfast in defending the interests of the state.
