Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has responded to circulating rumors suggesting that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) intends to arrest him following the conclusion of his tenure on November 14, asserting that he has nothing to conceal.

During the EdoBEST National Results-Sharing Session held in Abuja on Thursday, Obaseki disclosed that he had received information regarding the EFCC’s purported plans to detain him over allegations of fraud.

Despite the seriousness of these claims, the governor expressed confidence and a lack of fear regarding any possible arrest or inquiry, attributing the accusations to personal grudges held by his political adversaries.

“I’ve heard that the EFCC will take me into custody next week after my term ends. Wherever they place me, I’ll dedicate my time to research,” Obaseki remarked with a hint of defiance.

He proceeded to underscore the significant initiatives and reforms he has spearheaded during his administration, believing these will cement a lasting legacy for Edo State.

Obaseki dismissed the allegations as politically motivated attacks, asserting that he remains unfazed by the accusations. He pointed out that the petitions lodged against him are built on falsehoods.

Furthermore, he accused his political rivals of harboring jealousy and resentment towards his accomplishments over the past eight years, attributing their actions to envy.

The governor emphasized the need to concentrate on tackling the nation’s challenges and enhancing the lives of its citizens. “We have undertaken many initiatives that can be termed legacy projects. My commitment is to the people of Edo State, focusing on critical issues and implementing essential reforms.”

“Why should I fear? I have remained dedicated to my beliefs, and today the results speak for themselves. What transpires next is beyond my control. They may persist with their political vendettas and attempt to undermine me—that’s their concern,” he stated firmly.

“I am not afraid; I am not concerned. They’ve concocted numerous baseless petitions against me, which is merely part of the political landscape. In fact, I would willingly turn myself in if called—I have nothing to hide,” he added, reiterating his confidence in his legacy and achievements in the South-South state.
