Mrs. Bateren Nofisat, 50, who was nominated for the program by the Bamboo Marketers Association, participated in an intensive eight-week vocational training designed for 1,200 artisans and tradesmen throughout Lagos, facilitated by the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment.

The 12th graduation ceremony took place on Tuesday at De Blue Roof of Lagos Television in Agidingbi, where 800 artisans and 400 tradesmen from 60 different traders’ associations received modern tools and equipment to enhance their business development.

This initiative aimed to elevate the technical and entrepreneurial skills of the participants, broadening their knowledge base and improving their productivity and competitiveness in today’s marketplace.

The program aligns with the Sanwo-Olu administration’s T.H.E.M.E.S Plus development agenda, which focuses on social inclusion, gender equality, and youth empowerment, with the goal of reducing income inequalities and expanding economic opportunities.

Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the up-skilling initiative was specifically designed to tackle skill deficiencies and inadequate business management practices within the informal sector, where artisans play a crucial economic role.

He stated, “Artisans and tradesmen are fundamental to our state’s economy, and we have customized this training to empower Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) with innovative techniques to boost their productivity and income.”

Sanwo-Olu remarked, “This program aims to instill hope in diligent artisans and traders who seek to enhance their skills. The rigorous training you have completed will enable you to excel in your crafts with the new competencies you have acquired.”

He expressed optimism that the enhanced productivity would yield significant benefits for the trainees, their communities, and the state overall.

“Artisans and traders form the backbone of our economy, with many contributing to Lagos State’s economic growth through the informal sector. Skilled and innovative workers are vital for our future.”

Acknowledging the rapid technological advancements, he noted that the evolving economic landscape necessitates fresh ideas and skills. “With this training, we have equipped you with the tools to forge new opportunities for yourselves.”

In addition to the comprehensive training, Sanwo-Olu provided each participant with modern equipment and encouraged them to share their newly acquired knowledge with fellow association members.
