Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, the National Leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Governor of Anambra State, has hit the streets to galvanize support for the party as the local government elections approach on September 28, 2024.
In a vibrant display of political fervor, Governor Soludo spearheaded a massive rally at the Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, the capital city of Anambra State, rallying APGA supporters.
Highlighting the event’s importance, Governor Soludo articulated that the campaign aims to motivate party members to actively participate in the upcoming elections—both as voters and candidates.
He underscored the critical role of grassroots elections in shaping the future trajectory of the state, asserting, “APGA embodies Anambra, and Anambra represents APGA.”
Soludo reiterated the commitment to conduct the local government elections, reminding attendees that it was a promise fulfilled despite skepticism during the campaign phase. He noted, “We pledged to establish the necessary institutional frameworks.”
Reflecting on the history of elections in Anambra, he mentioned, “Since 1998, we’ve held elections, with the last one in 2014 under former Governor Obi. We are set to conduct another election this month, having adjusted our schedule due to a Supreme Court ruling.”
The Governor revealed that around nine political parties are contesting, but only APGA has candidates for every available position. He expressed his dedication to the party, promising to continue advancing progressivism and enumerating his administration’s accomplishments, including advancements in infrastructure and human capital development.
Soludo asserted, “Anambra is comprised of 85 to 90 percent APGA. We remain a united, formidable political force under the leadership of Barr. Sly Ezeokenwa.”
He added, “Our mission is to ensure peace and stability in the nation, and we’re eager to engage in national discourse and collaborate with others. We are poised to elevate local governance in Anambra State.”
Barr. Ifeatu Obiokoye, the State Chairman of APGA, set an encouraging tone for the event, indicating the party’s readiness to engage voters. Meanwhile, Barr. Sly Ezeokenwa, the National Chairman of APGA, highlighted Anambra’s exemplary performance across various sectors as a model for others.
Former National Chairman Dr. Victor Oye emphasized APGA’s unassailable position, urging members to remain steadfast and focused. Various speakers, including Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu and Dr. Paschal Agbodike, affirmed the party’s strength and called for increased support.
The Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, joined Governor Soludo at the lively event, which included music, dance, and the ceremonial handover of flags to party candidates by the State Chairman.
APGA, currently the ruling party in Anambra State, is diligently working to maintain its influence as it campaigns on its successes in security, infrastructure, and job creation.
With elections set to take place in 21 local government areas, the competition is expected to be fierce, with multiple parties vying for key positions. Under Governor Soludo’s leadership, APGA is keen to solidify its power, reflecting on the commendable achievements of the Governor’s nearly three years in office.
