Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has emphasized the importance of a collaboration between governmental bodies and security organizations in Nigeria, particularly praising the Nigerian Army for its role in fostering national unity and safety.

Uzodimma expressed his appreciation during a visit from participants of Course 33 of the National Defence College, who were in Imo State for a five-day study tour. The meeting took place at the Government House in Owerri on Thursday.

Represented by Barr. Jerry Egemba, the Commissioner for Tourism, Hospitality, and Culture, the Governor reiterated the significance of cooperation between the government and security agencies, thanking the College for selecting Imo State as a focus for their studies this year.

He encouraged the Course 33 participants to utilize the insights gained during their visit to enhance their professional skills and contribute positively to the nation. “You play a pivotal role not only in Nigeria’s unity but also within the defense framework of our Republic,” Uzodimma stated.

He acknowledged the positive influence of the Nigerian Army, saying, “Your presence here today and the ongoing efforts in ensuring peace and security in Imo State have not gone unnoticed.”

Earlier in the meeting, Brig.-Gen. Kabiru Sidi, the leader of the College’s study tour, highlighted the purpose of the exercise, which is to explore the dynamics of various states across the nation. He announced that for the upcoming 2024 Course 33, the College selected five states—Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Plateau, Imo, and Sokoto—for their study visits.

The theme for the 2024 Course focuses on “Strengthening Institutions for National Security and Development in Nigeria.” Brig.-Gen. Sidi noted that the National Defence College is the premier training ground for the Nigerian Armed Forces, concentrating on strategic and policy development.

“Each team is dispatched to different states with specific research topics. Upon completion, they compile reports and provide recommendations to state governments for implementation,” Sidi explained.
