Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has lifted the curfew that was put in place after the tragic bomb blast in Kaworu, which killed 16 people and left many others seriously injured.
On Friday, the government briefly relaxed the curfew so that Muslims could attend their Friday (Jumaat) prayers. During a statewide broadcast, the governor expressed his condolences to the families affected by the Kaworu bomb attack. He explained that the curfew was necessary to prevent Boko Haram from exploiting the situation to cause more chaos in the state.
“I want to offer my deepest sympathies to the families impacted by this tragic event and to all the people of Borno State. I also express my support for those injured and currently receiving medical treatment. In this time of mourning, we stand together, condemning this senseless act of violence,” he said.
Governor Zulum mentioned that the protests in the state had been taken over by troublemakers who tried to damage public property. However, thanks to the quick action of the military and other security forces, further destruction was prevented.
He urged residents to continue with their daily activities and assured them that the state’s security would not be compromised under any circumstances.
