The recently approved Greener Hope National Agricultural Mechanisation Programme (GHAPP) is poised to revolutionize Nigeria’s agricultural landscape, according to Samuel Joseph Samuel, chairman of Origin Tech Group.

This ambitious initiative, sanctioned by the Federal Government, aims to advance agricultural technologies, promote agro-industrialization, and encourage youth participation in agribusiness.

The GHAPP is targeting the cultivation of 500,000 hectares of arable land across Nigeria. To facilitate this, the programme will establish modern agricultural mechanization service centers and hubs in 37 farming clusters.

These centers will be outfitted with state-of-the-art machinery from Origin Tech Group’s subsidiary, Origin Automobile Works, ensuring that farmers have access to the latest technology to enhance productivity.

Samuel revealed that the programme will utilize technical partnerships with countries like South Korea, Taiwan, and Brazil to produce and supply agricultural machinery. These international collaborations will help establish enterprise centers nationwide, fostering local agricultural innovation and efficiency.

A critical aspect of the GHAPP is its focus on youth engagement. The programme will provide training and support for young farmers on modern agricultural techniques and machinery usage. Additionally, a digital platform for tractor hauling and recruitment will be developed in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications, streamlining the process for farmers to access equipment and services.

The initiative emphasizes the importance of modern infrastructure, incorporating advanced tools such as high-powered tractors, bulldozers, sprayers, drones, and large-scale silos. GHAPP will also create equipment and data centers, along with spare parts shops, to ensure effective management and maintenance of agricultural machinery. This infrastructure is vital for boosting the efficiency and sustainability of Nigeria’s farming practices.

Samuel highlighted that the GHAPP aims to be replicable and sustainable, extending support to smaller farms and involving international partners like Campo Brazil for expertise and assistance. This approach reflects a commitment to building a robust agricultural sector that can sustain itself in the long term.

The Greener Hope National Agricultural Mechanisation Programme was approved by the Federal Executive Council on June 25, 2024, as part of efforts to enhance food security and drive economic development throughout the country.

This initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Executive Order, which declared a state of emergency on food security, underlining the urgent need for effective agricultural solutions.

According to the Federal Government, the GHAPP presents a significant opportunity for both economic and social impact. It represents a strategic step towards transforming Nigeria’s agricultural sector by addressing the shortcomings of previous administrations. By fostering technological advancements and encouraging youth involvement, the GHAPP aims to create a more productive agricultural environment.

As Nigeria continues to face challenges related to food security and agricultural productivity, the GHAPP stands as a beacon of hope. With its emphasis on modern technology and youth empowerment, this programme has the potential to not only enhance agricultural output but also create jobs and stimulate economic growth across the nation.

Greener Hope National Agricultural Mechanisation Programme is a transformative initiative that promises to reshape Nigeria’s agricultural sector. By leveraging technology, training, and international partnerships, the GHAPP is set to enhance productivity, ensure food security, and foster sustainable growth in the agricultural industry.
