On Thursday, gunmen kidnapped three people from the Enugu State College of Health Technology in Oji River Local Government Area. DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident in a statement released on Saturday. He explained that once the police received reports of the kidnapping, officers from the Oji River Division quickly rushed to the scene. They were able to rescue two of the victims, but three others are still missing.
DSP Ndukwe mentioned that the police are actively working to find and save the remaining victims and to catch the kidnappers. Initial investigations suggest that the victims were leaving the college when the kidnapping happened, indicating they might have been targeted specifically.
The police spokesperson also addressed a false video circulating online that claimed numerous students had been kidnapped from the college. He denounced this video as misleading and intended to create unnecessary fear among the public.
DSP Ndukwe said that the Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, has instructed officers to do everything possible to find and rescue the missing individuals and to arrest those responsible. He also warned against believing and spreading false information on social media, as it can create panic and interfere with police efforts to handle such situations.
