The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has announced a new strategy aimed at reducing the duration of Nigerian pilgrims’ stay in Saudi Arabia during the Hajj pilgrimage.
Speaking to journalists upon his arrival at the Prince Mohammed Bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah, the Executive Chairman of NAHCON, Malam Jalal Arabi, revealed that the commission had successfully transported all Nigerian pilgrims directly to Madinah.
Arabi expressed optimism about achieving this target, which would mark a significant departure from past experiences where Nigerian pilgrims often lingered in Saudi Arabia while pilgrims from other countries had already departed.
He attributed this success to divine assistance and highlighted the cooperation of all stakeholders, including the presidency, the National Assembly, and air carriers.
He praised the air carriers for their trust and performance, emphasizing the importance of honesty in the commission’s dealings with them.
Arabi also thanked the stakeholders for their collaboration, noting that such unity was instrumental in achieving the current milestone.
Regarding the upcoming core Hajj rites period starting on June 13, Arabi assured that the commission had made adequate arrangements for feeding and medical care services for pilgrims.
He emphasised the principle of Tafweej, grouping pilgrims for ease of movement and identification.
Arabi further announced a new innovation in monitoring and distributing food, highlighting its critical role in ensuring pilgrims’ welfare.
He mentioned that an assessment team would be heading to Makkah to evaluate the situation and deal with service providers who had failed in their responsibilities.
He concluded by urging Nigerian pilgrims to be patient, law-abiding, and prepared for the challenging weather conditions in Madinah, emphasizing that the Hajj journey is a profound act of worship that requires dedication and resilience.
