Yusuf Yabo, a member of the House of Representatives, has expressed his satisfaction with the Court of Appeal’s ruling that confirmed his position as the legitimate representative for the Yabo/Shagari Federal Constituency in Sokoto State.

Yabo hailed the appellate court’s decision as a triumph of justice and equity for the constituents who elected him during the National Assembly elections held on February 25, 2023. This election was contested by his main opponent from the All Progressives Congress, Umaru Abubakar.

The Court of Appeal had previously mandated a re-election in 26 polling units, an election overseen by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), where Yabo emerged victorious. However, this election faced additional challenges, leading the election petition tribunal to call for further elections in two specific polling units.

After appealing the tribunal’s ruling, the Court of Appeal ruled that INEC was not required to hold any more re-run elections in those two polling units. Consequently, the appellate court overturned the tribunal’s decision regarding the two polling units and reaffirmed Yabo’s victory from the re-run election conducted by INEC.
