On Thursday, the House of Representatives made a significant pledge to assist the federal government. They committed N648 million for six months by agreeing to cut their salaries in half. This bold move aims to support food sufficiency in the country and tackle the rising prices of foodstuffs.

Food insecurity: Nigerians are becoming impatient, Senate tells Tinubu

This action is a direct response to the increasing costs of basic necessities, which have been hitting citizens hard. The lawmakers believe that by sacrificing a portion of their own income, they can contribute to a larger effort to stabilize the economy and ensure that food becomes more affordable for everyone.

In addition to their financial commitment, the representatives also called on all citizens to be patient with President Bola Tinubu. They emphasized that the President is working diligently to address the current economic crisis plaguing Nigeria and that these efforts will take time to show results.

The House gave specific instructions to the Committee on Appropriation, Humanitarian Affairs, Finance, and Budget. This committee has been tasked with making sure that the salary cuts are implemented as planned and that the funds are used effectively to combat the food crisis.

This decision followed a motion put forward during a plenary session in Abuja. Hon. Ibrahim Isiaka, a representative from Ogun State and a member of the APC, moved the motion, which received widespread support from his colleagues.
