Phillip Agbese, who serves as the Deputy Spokesman for the House of Representatives, has recently assured that the parliament is dedicated to carefully examining the 2024 Supplementary Appropriation Bill that was presented by President Bola Tinubu.
In a conversation on Friday, Agbese expressed the House’s strong commitment to making sure that the Supplementary Appropriation Bill, once it is approved, will truly serve the needs and interests of all Nigerians.
On Wednesday, President Tinubu requested an additional N6.2 trillion to be added to the 2024 budget. This includes N3.2 trillion earmarked for capital projects and N3 trillion allocated for ongoing expenses.
Agbese emphasized that the House will collaborate closely with the Senate to ensure that the bill is processed and approved without unnecessary delays. He stated, “We are firm in our dedication to transparency and accountability. We will thoroughly review the bill to make sure everything is in order, and we believe that the final budget will be one that is beneficial to all Nigerians.”
Agbese highlighted that the House has a strong working relationship with the Senate and is confident that they can jointly ensure the swift passage of the supplementary budget. He assured that the budget will undergo the required scrutiny and oversight.
“We are focusing on essential infrastructure projects that will make a real difference in the lives of Nigerians, such as roads, bridges, and healthcare facilities. Additionally, we are looking into initiatives in education and public welfare that will support our constituents,” he added. “Our goal is to ensure that the budget is comprehensive and benefits every Nigerian, no matter where they live or their economic situation.”
Agbese also praised Rt. Hon. Abubakar Bichi, the Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, for his role in transforming the country’s budgetary process.
“Bichi’s dedication to transparency and accountability has set a high standard, and his leadership has been crucial in ensuring that the committee is meticulously reviewing the budget proposal,” Agbese concluded.
