Political commentator Uzokwe Ndubuisi has expressed strong discontent with supporters of the Labour Party (LP), accusing them of exhibiting “selective amnesia” regarding Deputy Speaker Benjamin Okezie Kalu’s invitation to Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti to return to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ndubuisi voiced his frustrations over what he perceives as double standards among LP supporters, who he claims have conveniently ignored Otti’s past political maneuvers. “At first, I hesitated to speak on this issue,” Ndubuisi stated, “But the blatant hypocrisy from Labour Party supporters has enraged me, as they seem to forget that their cherished Otti has changed parties before.”
He recounted the political trajectory of Governor Otti, noting his unsuccessful bids for the Abia State governorship under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in both 2015 and 2019, before transitioning to the APC in 2020. When Otti couldn’t secure the APC’s governorship nomination for the 2023 elections, he joined the Labour Party, where he ultimately achieved victory.
“Sometimes I question how individuals can ‘Not Remember’ because ‘forgetting doesn’t exist’ unless they are experiencing selective amnesia,” Ndubuisi commented.
The analyst also recalled an episode from October 2023 when Otti visited Imo State, proclaiming that the APC’s reign there was finished and advising Governor Hope Uzodinma to prepare for a transfer of power.
Ndubuisi condemned Otti’s campaign approach as disrespectful, criticizing him for not focusing on what Labour Party candidate Sen. Athan Achonu could offer the people of Imo State, instead attacking Governor Uzodinma.
His commentary questioned the lack of response from LP supporters during Otti’s confrontational campaign in Imo State, contrasting it with their backlash to Kalu’s recent invitation. He argued that while Otti received accolades for bolstering the LP, Kalu’s invitation triggered media criticism, which Ndubuisi suspects was instigated by Otti’s camp. “No one labeled him a villain. No one hired social media influencers to malign him,” he noted.
Ndubuisi further pondered whether Otti would maintain the same enthusiasm for the Labour Party if he were to campaign in Edo State, hinting at potential similar controversies. “Let’s observe how he will advocate for his party in Edo, and whether he will reassure his supporters that the LP will take control of the government house,” he speculated.
Ndubuisi Finally quoted Franklin Raj, underscoring that “Selective Amnesia” serves as a convenient mechanism for individuals to remember only what aligns with their perspectives. This article has ignited discussions regarding political loyalty and the need for consistency in Nigeria’s dynamic political arena.
