During an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, the singer of the song ‘This Year’ mentioned that he lost his parents when he was young.
Additionally, the gospel singer shared that he used to sell marijuana, alcohol, and cigarettes to sex workers at night after selling sachet water during the day.
He said, “At a time, I was selling alcohol, weed, cigarettes, and hawking pure water. In the day, I did vulcanising, shoe-making, and hawked pure water; but at night. I would go back to my shop which was close to a brothel to sell alcohol, weed, and cigarettes. Most of my customers were prostitutes.
“I lost my parents when I was between 12 and 14 years old. My dad passed on first; I think I was 10 or thereabout. When my dad died, we didn’t even have a place to stay. But, God was so good; there was a carpenter who gave us a place to stay, which was an unoccupied land, practically a bush. So at night, I would sneak my mum in, and that was how we lived for years. But she couldn’t cope, and she passed away too.”
Thompson also mentioned that his wife wrote most of the lyrics to his songs. He said, “Most of the lyrics of my songs were written by my wife. After God, it is my wife.”
