A socio-cultural group representing the Igala nation, Ane Igala Restoration (AIR), has taken legal action against Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, over accusations of using the Atta of Igala for political purposes that could tarnish his esteemed position.
In a lawsuit filed at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, with the number W/1896/24, the AIR listed the Attorney General of the Federation, Kogi State Attorney General, the Hon Minister of Steel Development, Kogi State Traditional Council, and the Chairman Igala Area Traditional Council as defendants.

The lawsuit seeks to restrain the defendants from involving the Atta Igala in political activities or actions that could harm the traditional and cultural integrity of the Igala people. It also aims to prevent the defendants from using the Atta Igala to advance any political or non-cultural interests.

The plaintiffs allege that the defendants have been attempting to manipulate the Atta Igala for political gains, including influencing his visit to the President of Nigeria to make a political case in favor of the Kogi State Governor.
During the court hearing, which the defendants did not attend, the plaintiffs sought several declarations and injunctions to protect the traditional and cultural essence of the Attah Igala’s stool and prevent its politicization.

The matter has been adjourned to 11th July 2024 for further hearing, with the court ordering that all parties be served with the hearing notice.
