Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has called on police officers in the Edo State command to maintain a commitment to excellent service delivery in their duties.

During his two-day working visit to Edo State, IGP Egbetokun emphasized the Federal Government and Police administration’s objective to build a responsive police force capable of tackling the evolving dynamics of crime in society.

Addressing the officers, IGP Egbetokun highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance police welfare nationwide. “The Federal Government is dedicated to improving police welfare, and we are also striving to ensure better living conditions for policemen,” he stated.

He elaborated on the recently launched police housing scheme, aimed at providing affordable housing for all police officers. “Our goal is to ensure that no police officer serves for 35 years and retires without a home. With the support from the Federal Government, we are making this a reality,” Egbetokun explained.

Regarding pensions, IGP Egbetokun assured the officers of ongoing efforts to enhance pension benefits for retired officers, with details to be disclosed soon. “We also have various insurance schemes for police officers, including the group life assurance scheme, the group personal accident scheme, the IGP Family welfare scheme, and the Nigeria Police welfare insurance scheme. These are all designed for the benefit of our officers,” he added.

IGP Egbetokun proudly noted that the Nigeria Police was recently rated as the most improved agency in anti-corruption efforts in the country. He attributed this achievement to the officers’ alignment with the new policing vision, which focuses on professionalism, service orientation, rule of law compliance, and a people-friendly approach.

The IGP urged the command to maintain transparency and honesty in their interactions with the public. “Serve the people to the best of your ability and uphold the highest standards of integrity and public trust. The job of a policeman is one where you can earn public prayer or its opposite, depending on your conduct,” he remarked.

Commissioner of Police in Edo State, CP Funsho Adegboye, briefed IGP Egbetokun on the command’s achievements, particularly in tackling high-profile crimes and enhancing policing in the state.

The highlight of IGP Egbetokun’s visit was the commissioning of the newly built ultra-modern Benin Area Command Headquarters on Upper Sakponba Road in Benin.
