The Independent Monitors Group on Economic Reform (IMGER) has applauded Dangote Petroleum Refinery and MRS Oil for reducing the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) during the festive season.
In a statement signed by Dr. Wasiu Akande, the group described the price slash as a significant relief for Nigerians amid ongoing economic challenges, emphasizing the companies’ commitment to public welfare.
Highlighting Dangote Refinery’s innovative purchase offer, which allows consumers to secure an extra litre of fuel on credit with a bank guarantee, IMGER commended the initiative as a timely financial cushion during the high-spending yuletide period.
IMGER noted that the reduced fuel prices—N899.50 per litre by Dangote and N935 per litre by MRS Oil—will alleviate economic pressure by lowering transportation and food costs. This move, they believe, will enhance disposable income, stimulate economic growth, and improve living standards.
“This is a resounding demonstration of the companies’ dedication to providing affordable petroleum products to Nigerians,” IMGER stated. “Their initiative will undoubtedly reduce the cost of essential commodities, fostering economic stability.”
The group called for sustained partnerships between private entities and the Federal Government to address pressing challenges, such as affordable fuel prices, digital skills development, and climate-smart agriculture research.
“Sustained collaboration will ensure the effective sharing of expertise and resources, ultimately creating solutions that benefit all Nigerians,” the statement concluded.
