The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State has rejected allegations of financial neglect directed towards Governor Hope Uzodinma, characterizing them as baseless.

According to party officials, these accusations have emerged from certain individuals suggesting that the APC is grappling with internal discord, asserting that the state leadership is at odds with the governor due to his purported abandonment of the party following the recent Local Council elections.

In response, the state leadership, through Publicity Secretary Cajetan Duke, labeled these claims as mere rumors concocted by adversaries who are envious of the party’s significant achievements in the recent elections.

Duke stated, “The All Progressives Congress, Imo State chapter has become aware of an article circulating on social media titled ‘Imo APC is in Distress; State Exco Members Cry out for Help, Accused Governor of Total Neglect.’”

He emphasized that the allegations are unfounded and are attempts to tarnish the integrity of the party and undermine the government’s credibility. He asserted that the APC in Imo State is in a robust state, actively fulfilling its responsibilities.

The spokesperson further declared that the party maintains accurate and current financial records, and the recent Local Government elections demonstrate that the Imo APC is functional and thriving.

“We fully agree with the writer’s assertion regarding the non-financial involvement of the Governor in the party’s daily activities. We take pride in stating that our Governor has remained loyal to his oath of office, ensuring his personal interests do not overshadow his constitutional duties,” he added.

Duke clarified that the Governor or the state government is not a source of funding for the party. He referenced the 2022 Constitution of the APC, as amended, which outlines various legitimate funding sources, including membership dues, investments, donations, and fundraising activities.

He concluded by urging party members and supporters to dismiss the article and its claims, describing it as a product of malice and mischief.
