The Imo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially commenced the selection process for its candidates in the upcoming Local Government Area (LGA) Chairmanship and Councillor elections, scheduled for September 21. These elections will take place across the state’s 27 Council areas and 305 Wards.
In a press statement released by the State Publicity Secretary, Cajetan Duke, the APC emphasized that this exercise marks a significant step toward advancing its renewed hope agenda in the state’s political landscape.
“The primary election, which is simultaneously ongoing across the wards and LGA in the state, is expected to be conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner, ensuring a level playing field for all aspirants. The party assures all stakeholders of equal opportunities, adhering to the principles of democracy and internal party mechanisms,” Duke stated.
He added that the party leadership is optimistic that the process will lead to the emergence of the most capable and popular candidates who will represent the APC in the forthcoming elections. He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to the values of inclusivity, justice, and fair play throughout the primary election process.
Duke further highlighted that measures have been put in place to ensure a smooth and hitch-free exercise, guaranteeing the participation of all eligible members. He urged aspirants and party supporters to conduct themselves peacefully, avoiding any form of violence or malpractice.

Earlier, the State APC Chairman, MacDonald Ebere, expressed confidence in the primary election process while addressing journalists. He remarked, “We are poised to produce candidates who will not only win the LGA elections but also deliver good governance to our people. We enjoin all aspirants and stakeholders to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship and work towards the ultimate victory of our great party.”
The primary election process is expected to conclude with the emergence of candidates who will represent the party in the September 21 LGA elections.
