The Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) believes that justice will be served by the appeal court in the legal battle surrounding the November 2023 governorship election.

The state chairman of the PDP, Chidi Dike, expressed this sentiment during a press briefing in Owerri.

Dike’s comments came in response to the judgment of the Imo governorship tribunal, which upheld Governor Hope Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the governor of the state.

The PDP, as the opposition party, stated that the tribunal’s judgment did not accurately reflect the facts presented by the party. Therefore, they intend to pursue the matter in the appeal court.

“We believe that the ruling of the tribunal did not accurately reflect the true facts presented by our legal experts. The reality is that our party and its candidate, Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu, won the November 11 governorship election. We presented these facts to the tribunal. While we reject the ruling, we maintain our confidence in the judiciary and its ability to correct the biased view of the judges in Abuja,” Dike explained.

He further emphasized that the people of Imo State had rejected the APC candidate due to the party’s underwhelming performance in the state.

Dike expressed gratitude to party members for their support and assured them that their mandate and that of the people would be restored. He urged them to remain steadfast as they seek justice in the Court of Appeal.

“We appreciate the solidarity and loyalty shown by our party members. Your messages and calls have been acknowledged, and we assure you that we will not take your support for granted. We will continue our efforts to recover our mandate.

We remain confident in the Nigerian constitution and the higher judiciary to rectify the tribunal’s errors. The Court of Appeal will undoubtedly serve us justice,” Dike concluded.
