The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that 134 observer groups are set to monitor the upcoming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states scheduled for September and November respectively.

Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, revealed this in a statement.

He stated that out of the 153 applications received from interested organizations, 134 groups (124 domestic and 10 international) have met the accreditation requirements.

According to the statement, the accredited observer groups include 28 gender-based organizations, three representing Persons with Disabilities, eight faith-based groups, ten international organizations, and over 100 others with experience in election observation and related fields.

The next step involves accredited organizations uploading personal details and photographs of their field observers to a dedicated portal established by INEC.

A one-day training session for representatives of these observer groups is scheduled for Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at INEC’s Conference Room in Abuja at 10:00 am.

Accredited organizations will receive access codes to the portal and letters of accreditation during the training.

Further details about the training and a comprehensive list of all 134 accredited observer groups have been published on INEC’s website and social media platforms for the necessary actions by concerned organizations and public information.
