The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has expressed its appreciation to the security agencies in Delta State for their commendable efforts in maintaining peace and creating a secure environment during the ongoing local government election.
During an interview with journalists in Asaba, IPAC chairman Henry Eze praised the overall peaceful nature of the election, based on reports from IPAC members and observations made at various polling units.
Eze highlighted the absence of violence and thuggery in the polling units visited, particularly in Oshimili South Local Government Area.
He attributed this positive outcome to the effective actions taken by the security agencies, who exceeded expectations in fulfilling their responsibilities.
The IPAC delegation had the opportunity to meet with the state Commissioner for Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, prior to the election. Eze expressed satisfaction with the security measures put in place, emphasizing that the actual implementation matched the assurances given by the Commissioner.
Notably, the local government election witnessed the participation of approximately ten political parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP), and Action Alliance (AA). This diverse representation aligns with IPAC’s inclusive approach to electoral processes.
In line with IPAC’s commitment to inclusivity, the council observed that people with disabilities were actively exercising their right to vote at some of the monitored polling units in Asaba.
This serves as a testament to the council’s dedication to ensuring equal participation for all segments of society.
Similarly, in the Okpanam area of Oshimili North Local Government Area, specifically in DSIEC Ward 13, Units 3 and 30, the voting process proceeded peacefully.
IPAC’s recognition of the security agencies’ efforts shows the importance of maintaining a secure and peaceful environment for nigerian democratic processes.
