Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has officially declared Tuesday, August 20, 2024, a public holiday in honor of this year’s Isese Day celebration.

The announcement was made in a circular titled “Commemoration of Year 2024 Isese Day – Declaration of Work-Free Day,” issued by the state’s Head of Service, Bode Agoro, on Monday.

According to the circular, the holiday underscores Governor Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to supporting traditional institutions and promoting the preservation of cultural heritage.

However, the directive clarifies that public servants are to resume work on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at 8:00 a.m.

The circular states, “This year’s Isese Day celebration will take place on Tuesday, August 20, 2024.

In line with the Governor’s commitment to supporting traditional institutions and promoting Indigenous traditions through the preservation of cultural heritage, Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has approved the declaration of Tuesday, August 20, 2024, as a work-free day for public servants in the state.

“Work will resume on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at 8:00 a.m. All Accounting Officers are expected to ensure the wide circulation of this information across the service.”

This marks the first time the Lagos State Government has declared a public holiday to celebrate Isese Day, following the United Nations’ designation of August 20 as World Traditional Religion Day.
