The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has noticed a troubling rise in fake age adjustments on national identification slips. These doctored slips are being submitted to change the recorded age of candidates.
During a news conference in Abuja on Sunday, JAMB’s spokesman, Fabian Benjamin, revealed that many schools in Nigeria are admitting students through dishonest means. He highlighted the surge in false affidavits and altered national ID slips aimed at changing candidates’ ages.
Benjamin explained that some institutions have been admitting students outside the approved Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS). These institutions then attempt to legitimize these illegal admissions through a special window provided by JAMB.
To address this issue, JAMB has decided to take firm action. From August 1, 2024, all institutions must reveal all candidates who were admitted illegally before 2017. They have one month to do this. After this period, any admission given before 2017 will not be recognized unless disclosed within this one-month window.
Institutions are strongly advised to comply with this directive. JAMB will not accept any previously unrecorded candidates who did not register or sit for any entrance examination.
