Controversial self-proclaimed sex therapist, Hauwa Mohammed, better known as Jaruma, has opened up about the real reason behind her decision to get married.
Jaruma, who tied the knot with Ross Fahad Isabor in 2018 and divorced in 2021, disclosed in an interview with the Issues and Society podcast that her marriage was driven by the intense backlash she faced from northern Nigerians for selling aphrodisiacs as a single woman.
“There was massive criticism from the north because I was selling sex products as a single lady,” she said. “They wondered why people allowed a single lady to teach them what happens in the bedroom for lots of money.”
Jaruma, who built a successful career selling sexual enhancement products, revealed that the industry brought her significant success, stating, “The sex industry is a multi-billion industry, I have made N760 million in 3 years.” Despite the backlash, she was determined to stay in the industry, adding, “I can’t just leave because of the heat I was going through.”
However, the pressure to conform to societal expectations led her to get married. “I just said if marriage is the problem, let me just do it,” she explained. “I didn’t get married because of love, I got married a month after meeting my ex-husband just to get away from the pressure I got from the north.”
Jaruma also revealed that her ex-husband was aware of the circumstances surrounding their marriage, saying, “He knew it was not for love but pressure because I told him.”
It’s worth noting that in 2022, Ross Fahad Isabor publicly warned Jaruma to stop using his name to promote her “fake products.”
