Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has stated that he would not hesitate to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) if he chose to do so.
Wike made this declaration while discussing his reasons for not backing former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Atiku Abubakar during the 2023 presidential elections. He emphasized that issues of equity and fairness were lacking within the PDP, leading to his decision not to support Atiku.
He clarified that he had no discussions with President Bola Tinubu about joining the APC before the elections. “At my level, I made it clear that I would not support your presidency (referring to Atiku) because there was no justice or equity in the PDP,” Wike remarked.
He added, “I’m not one to mask my intentions. I’m straightforward—what I say is what I mean, and I follow through. I announced my decision not to support Atiku, and I stand by it without regrets.”
Wike further emphasized that he never communicated with the President about transitioning to the APC, stating, “I never mentioned to anyone that I would join the APC, and no one should assume that I’m intimidated by the idea of joining the party if I decide to.”
