Personnel of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) neutralized not fewer than five notorious terrorists in an operation conducted on Sunday, September 1, 2024.
The operation was confirmed by Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, Director of Public Relations and Information for the NAF, in a statement made available to journalists.
The statement reads: “Following an intelligence report received on August 31, 2024, that a known terrorist kingpin, Mustapha Abdullahi, and five members of his group were sighted near Sabon Gida Forest along Sabon Birni Road in Igabi Local Government Area (LGA), Kaduna State, with likely intent to kidnap, harm, or kill innocent civilians, a team of Special Forces from the NAF’s 413 Force Protection Group was dispatched to comb the location.”
Upon making contact with the terrorists, who were on motorcycles, the terrorists immediately opened fire upon sighting the Special Forces. However, they were swiftly neutralized by the superior firepower of the NAF troops, eliminating all the terrorists.
Items recovered from the scene included five locally fabricated sub-machine guns, den guns, live ammunition, assorted charms, lighters, SIM cards, and phone cases.
Gabkwet added that efforts by the troops to rid Igabi, Birnin Gwari, and surrounding areas of criminal activities remain ongoing. The troops have been commended for their successful operation and urged to intensify efforts to safeguard lives and properties.
